More than 75,000 Russian casualties in Ukraine - US estimate
Members of the US House of Representatives say that, according to the administration of American President Joe Biddn, the number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded during the war in Ukraine exceeds 75,000.
CNN writes about it.
According to the publication, members of the House of Representatives committee were present at a secret briefing on Ukraine.
"We were briefed that over 75,000 Russians have either been killed or wounded, which is huge, you've got incredible amounts of investment in their land forces, over 80% of their land forces are bogged down, and they're tired. But they’re still the Russian military," said Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin.
In recent weeks, US and Western officials have said that the next few weeks of the war will be decisive as the Ukrainians plan a major counteroffensive in the south. American and Western officials believe that Ukraine will seek to retake the southern city of Kherson, which has been occupied by Russia since March.
"I think that what we heard very firmly from President Zelensky and reinforced today is that the Ukrainians really want to hit Russia in the teeth a few times before the winter comes, put them in the best position possible, particularly hitting them down south," added Slotkin.
According to her, the US is discussing sending Ukraine long-range missiles, known as ATACMS, which can strike at a distance of up to 180 miles (over 280 kilometers). And this initiative has support. Previously, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that the US would not provide ATACMS because they could be used to strike Russian territory, which would further escalate the war.
