Missile attack on Kyiv region injures 2 people, damages 10 homes
On the night of August 27, Russian forces attempted another missile attack on the capital of Ukraine: air defense destroyed all targets
This was announced by the head of Kyiv regional military administration Ruslan Kravchenko on Facebook.
“During the night, the enemy launched another missile attack on the region. The air alert lasted for nearly 3 hours, with the air defense system actively engaged. Thanks to the skilled efforts of the air defense forces, critical and residential infrastructure remained unscathed,” as stated by Kravchenko.
Kravchenko also informed that falling debris from downed cruise missiles caused damage to 10 private houses in a district of Kyiv region. Among these houses, one sustained significant damage, while the others had windows, doors, roofs, and facades affected.
“The debris also caused harm to two cars and a storage hangar for agricultural machinery. Two individuals sustained minor cuts and received immediate assistance on-site,” according to the report.
At present, emergency services are continuing their operations at the scene, ensuring affected individuals receive the necessary support.
The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, through their Telegram channel, earlier disclosed that air defense equipment successfully destroyed four Kh-101/Kh-55/Kh-555 cruise missiles during the night.
"On the night of August 27, 2023, the enemy launched Kh-101/Kh-55/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles. These missiles were fired from five strategic aviation aircraft in the Russian Federation's airspace, specifically from the Engels region," the announcement detailed.
The statement highlighted the observation of up to eight aerial targets in total.
"Four Kh-101/Kh-55/Kh-555 cruise missiles were eliminated by the Air Force's efforts in the central and northern regions. The remaining aerial targets are likely deceptive, as no information about any successful hits was reported," the release clarified.
Serhii Popko, the head of the city's military administration, had earlier confirmed the attack.
Earlier in the night, Russians launched cruise missiles of the Kh-101/555/55 variety from Tu-95MS strategic aircraft in the Caspian Sea region.
The air defense forces successfully neutralized the threats headed towards Kyiv. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damages reported in Kyiv due to this attack.
