“Along the coast, we are detecting objects carried by the current into the sea from the flooded areas of the Kherson region. According to experts, their number will increase in the coming days. River mines are the most dangerous. They are small in size and can be invisible in the sea. It is impossible to clear them, so they will be detonated in place,” Trukhanov said.
“Because of this, law enforcement along the Odesa coast has been strengthened,” he added.
“I remind you that the ban on visiting beaches and swimming in the sea is still in effect in Odesa,” Gennadiy Trukhanov emphasized.
According to the mayor, the garbage, which is also currently being transported by sea to Odesa, will be transported by port tugs to special sites.
“And I ask everyone to refrain from visiting the coast these days,” Trukhanov concluded.
The State Border Guard Service also reminds the population that the seawater in the Odesa region is now carrying mines and ammunition: "In the Odesa region, border guards record the consequences of the Russian ecocide: the sea is turning into a garbage dump and animal cemetery. Houses, furniture, household appliances, and cars are floating in it. A pestilence of fish begins. We ask citizens not to neglect their own safety and to contact the competent services if they find dangerous items,” the statement says.
