Ukraine ratifies agreement to receive €50 billion in aid from the EU
On June 6, the Verkhovna Rada ratified an agreement with the European Union necessary to receive funds under the Ukraine Facility initiative. This agreement secures €50 billion in aid, of which Ukraine will receive €16 billion this year.
"The Verkhovna Rada has ratified the agreement with the European Union required to receive €50 billion under the Ukraine Facility. This was the last step to make the program work," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated.
He reminded that the Ukraine Facility is a four-year program to support Ukraine, requiring necessary reforms and transformations for accession to the EU. This year, Ukraine will receive €16 billion under this initiative, Shmyhal emphasized.
The Ukraine Facility is an instrument that allows Ukraine to receive financial and technical assistance from the EU totaling €50 billion from 2024 to 2027. Of this amount, €38.27 billion will be allocated for budget support, €6.97 billion for the investment fund, and €4.76 billion for technical and administrative support.
Ukraine destroys Russian vessel in the Black Sea
Ukrainian Special Forces destroyed the enemy tugboat Saturn in the Black Sea at night.
"On June 6, a special unit of the 9th Department of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine successfully struck a Russian raid tugboat Saturn or Proteus off the coast of temporarily occupied Crimea," the DIU said in the statement.
It is noted that as a result of the operation in the waters of Lake Panske, another vessel of the Russian forces was destroyed.
DIU spokesman Andriy Yusov first announced the operation during a telethon: "The work of the DIU's special forces, the naval strike, everything is accurate. And minus one enemy ship." The Krymsky Viter Telegram channel also reported loud noises in the area of Chornomorsk.
Ukrainian drones attack Russian oil depot and refinery
Ukrainian drones, operated by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), attacked an oil depot in the Belgorod region and a refinery in the Rostov region.
DIU drones targeted an oil depot near Stary Oskol in the Belgorod region of Russia. "DIU operation, targets were hit," a source stated. The attack was confirmed by Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region.
"The Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked an oil depot in the Starooskolsky urban district using a kamikaze drone. The explosion caused one of the tanks to catch fire. Four fire crews quickly extinguished the fire. The blast wave smashed the windows in the security building," Gladkov wrote.
Simultaneously, a fire broke out at the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region. "As a result of the UAV attack, a fire started at the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery. Emergency response services are working at the scene," Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev said. Later, he reported that the fire had been localized to an area of 100 square meters.
Additionally, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the interception and destruction of several Ukrainian UAVs overnight: "Over the past night, regular air defense systems intercepted and destroyed thirteen Ukrainian UAVs over the territory of Crimea, six UAVs over the Belgorod region, and one Neptune anti-ship missile over the territory of the Rostov region."
Ukrainian Defense Forces capture Russian assault troops in Vovchansk
In Vovchansk, the Ukrainian Armed Forces captured an assault group of Russian soldiers. During a counterattack by soldiers of the 36th Marine Brigade, two assault company commanders and four soldiers surrendered.
This was reported by Nazar Voloshyn, spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic grouping of troops.
"Two Russian assault companies were almost completely destroyed. Both company commanders surrendered, wounded, along with the rest of their soldiers. Those who were smart enough to raise their hands survived. This is a clear victory for the soldiers of the 36th Brigade," Voloshyn emphasized.
A video shows five Russian soldiers who were captured. They were carrying military ID cards and tokens of the Russian armed forces.
According to the spokesperson, it is common for Ukrainian defenders to capture Russian soldiers in the Kharkiv region. The Russians either surrender during the fighting or are taken prisoner by Ukrainian soldiers during assaults.
