Ukrainian forces advance near Horlivka in Donetsk region - ISW

Ukrainian defenders have regained previously lost positions about three kilometers northwest of Horlivka, Donetsk region

The Institute for the Study of War reports.

“Ukrainian forces recently regained lost positions northwest of Horlivka. Geolocated footage posted on January 29 shows Ukrainian troops assaulting and capturing several positions about three kilometers northwest of Horlivka,” the statement says.

The Russian forces recently launched an unsuccessful assault southwest of Donetsk.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff said that Ukrainian forces repelled an unsuccessful Russian attack in the direction of Solodke-Kostiantynivka. During this attack, the Russians lost two tanks, six MT-LB armored fighting vehicles and one BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle. The report notes that geolocation footage shows damaged and abandoned Russian armored vehicles near Novomykhailivka.

Some propagandists also claimed that Russians attacked south and southwest of Novomykhailivka. Ukrainian and Russian sources reported continued positional fighting west of Donetsk, near Heorhiivka, and southwest of Donetsk, near Pobieda and Novomykhailivka.
