Ukrainian forces thwart Russian plans to occupy and strengthen positions in Vovchansk - General Staff

The General Staff reported this on May 16.

"Since the beginning of the enemy's offensive on 10.05.2024 in the Kharkiv sector, the Defense Forces have significantly reduced the activity of the Russian occupiers by decisive actions. The enemy's plans to penetrate as deep as possible into the urban area of Vovchansk and gain a foothold there have been thwarted," the statement said.

It is noted that Ukrainian forces continue to carry out combat missions within the urban area of Vovchansk in the northern part of the city, keeping the Russian enemy under fire control. 

23 combat clashes took place at the front since the beginning of the day

Since the beginning of the day, 23 combat clashes took place on the front. The Russian troops launched two missile attacks, four air strikes involving eight combat aircraft and 48 kamikaze drone strikes, and fired 564 times at Ukrainian troops' positions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops, supported by armored vehicles, are trying to attack Ukrainian positions in the Krokhmalne-Berestove area.

Ukrainian defenders destroyed a tank and an infantry fighting vehicle here. The battle continues, the situation is under control. In addition, Ukrainian defenders improved their tactical position and pushed their enemy back in the area north of Kyslivka.

In the Siversk direction, Russia conducted one attack in the Vesele-Zvanivka area, there are no changes in the Ukrainian troops' position. Fighting continues in the Yakovlivka-Rozdolivka area.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russian army unsuccessfully tried three times to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Bakhmut - Klishchiivka, Bakhmut - Andriivka. Fighting continues in the area of Hryhorivka. The situation is under control.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled three attacks in the areas of Vodiane - Netailove and Pervomaiske - Netailove. The fighting continues. The situation is under control.

In the Kurakhove direction, Russian occupation forces launched three attacks in the areas of Vodiane - Netailove, Slavne - Novomykhailivka. Fighting is still ongoing in the areas of Solodke - Kostiantynivka and Solodke - Vodiane. Ukrainian positions have not been lost so far.

In the Vremivka direction, Russia launched three unsuccessful attacks in the areas of Staromlynivka - Urozhaine. Zavitne Bazhannia - Staromayorske. In the Volodyne-Staromayorske area, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian enemy. At the moment, no losses of positions have been made, the situation is under control.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Russian army continues its attempts to push the Ukrainian Defense Forces from the left bank of the Dnipro River. During the current day, they made three attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near the village of Krynky, Kherson region. No losses of positions were incurred.
