Ukraine makes progress in Kharkiv sector, Russia tests Ukraine's response in Donetsk region - ISW
Ukrainian forces gained ground in Kharkiv. Meanwhile, the Russians launch four mechanized attacks in Donetsk to test the Ukrainian army reaction
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports.
Geolocation footage released on May 28 shows that Ukrainian forces have regained positions along a strip southeast of Lukiantsi, northeast of Lyptsi, and north of Kharkiv.
One Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces were allegedly pushing Ukrainian forces out of positions in high-rise buildings near the stadium and the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant in northern Vovchansk, although ISW has not observed visual evidence of Russian forces operating in these two areas.
In addition, Russian troops have recently launched four mechanized attacks by company and smaller units in several operational areas in the Donetsk region. Although they did not achieve significant success, they were testing Ukraine's reaction after the fighting in the Kharkiv direction.
Footage released on May 27 and 28 shows Russian troops conducting intensified platoon mechanized attacks east of Chasiv Yar, east of Novopokrovske, near Novomykhailivka, and in Staromayorske.
- Over the course of May 27, the Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated dozens more units of Russian occupiers' equipment and 1,460 Russian Army troops.
