Ukraine’s Security Service slaps new charges on Russian propagandist Skabeyeva
Ukraine’s Security Service has in absentia issued new charges against Russian propagandist Olga Skabeyeva, who has been justifying Russia’s war against Ukraine
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) reported the information.
According to case materials, the suspect is part of the Kremlin’s media pool, which uses her to widely disseminate information and psychological manipulation campaigns in Moscow’s interests.
For instance, it has been documented that Skabeyeva has repeatedly called for the capture of Kyiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and other major Ukrainian cities.
She also suggested that the invading forces’ command destroy Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in order to cut power to entire regions. To achieve this, she advocated for the use of combined missile and drone strikes against key energy-generating facilities, particularly during the cold season.
Skabeyeva regularly promotes these and other narratives on the 60 Minutes program, aired on one of the Kremlin’s leading propaganda channels — Russia-1.
Court-ordered linguistic and forensic examinations initiated by the SBU confirmed Skabeyeva’s involvement in subversive information activities. As a result, SBU investigators have in absentia charged her under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Infringement on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability, resulting in loss of life or other grave consequences;
- Justification, recognition as lawful, or denial of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, and glorification of its participants, committed through mass media;
- Actions aimed at the violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power, committed via mass media;
- War propaganda.
As the perpetrator is hiding from justice in Russia, comprehensive measures are ongoing to bring her to accountability.
- Additionally, Ukraine’s Security Service recently in absentia charged another Russian propagandist, Vladimir Solovyov. He is accused of justifying Russian war crimes and inciting genocide against Ukrainians.
