Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence destroys Russia’s latest jet drone with indigenous missile system
Russia’s latest jet drone was destroyed by a missile system developed by specialists from the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence agency
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) reported the information.
“On the night of May 29, 2025, Ukrainian Defence and Security Forces successfully repelled a russian drone attack on the Odesa region using a mobile air defense missile system developed by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine with support from international partners,” the report stated.
After detecting the Russian drone, Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces struck the target, destroying the enemy’s latest jet drone, which fell into the Black Sea. The destroyed UAV was likely Russia’s newest model, the Dan-M.
The operators of the air defense system were trained by HUR personnel.
What is the Dan-M UAV?
Serhiy Flash (Beskrestnov), a Ukrainian expert and consultant in military radio technology and technical blogger, reported that on the morning of May 29, Russia deployed a new type of strike jet UAV, the Dan-M, in an attack.
According to him, these UAVs were launched by a group operating from Crimea. Originally designed as jet targets for training and testing air defense systems, Russia has converted the Dan-M into a strike UAV.
“Similarly, at the beginning of the war, we converted Strizh jet UAVs due to a shortage of cruise missiles and long-range strike drones. It’s unclear why Russia made this modification — perhaps they have a large stock of these UAVs. Originally, the target drones were red, but in this case, the body color has been changed,” the expert noted.
He listed the main characteristics of the Dan-M drone as follows:
- Flight time: 25–40 minutes
- Speed: 400–750 km/h
- Flight altitude: up to 9 km
