Ukraine launches mass production of Sapsan short-range ballistic missile — President's Office
Andriy Yermak, the head of the President's Office, says that Ukraine has begun mass production of its own short-range ballistic missile Sapsan
He said this in an interview with The Times.
This missile was used in combat for the first time last month—it struck a Russian military target at a distance of about 300 km.
Key characteristics of the missile:
It has a warhead weighing 480 kg, which is twice as much as the American ATACMS missile;
Its speed is more than five times the speed of sound;
The exact range is classified, but it is believed to reach up to 500 km.
Unlike drones, which Russia can intercept, the new ballistic missile is a much more difficult target for Russian air defense, Yermak noted.
When asked whether such a missile could reach Moscow, the head of the President's Office said: "Things are going very well. I think we will be able to surprise our enemies more than once."
On June 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced preparations for the mass production of the Sapsan ballistic missile.
At the same time, member of the parliamentary defense committee, MP Roman Kostenko, explained why he considers the Sapsan missile not good enough to effectively counter Russia.
