According to an official statement shared on social media, the Russian submarine entered the Baltic Sea via the Great Belt Strait, where it was detected by Swedish forces. Air Force units and fighter jets were deployed to meet and accompany the vessel as it moved through the Kattegat.

The incident comes shortly after the NATO Naval Forces Command reported that the Russian submarine Novorossiysk had surfaced off the French coast. The Dutch Ministry of Defense confirmed that Dutch naval vessels had escorted the Novorossiysk and the tugboat Yakov Grebelsky through the North Sea, suggesting the submarine was being towed due to mechanical issues.
