Russia's potential summer offensive aims for attrition, not major city seizures – military expert
Serhiy Zgurets, a military expert and CEO of the Defense Express media and consulting company, believes that the Russian army is focused on sustained pressure across all frontline areas using its infantry units
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"In my view, the enemy (Russia – ed.) currently lacks the capability to conduct offensive operations along the entire 1,000-kilometer front or achieve significant breakthroughs. Instead, I believe the Russian army will continue its strategy of sustained pressure using infantry units in all directions. The primary objective of their offensive is exhaustion rather than breakthrough advances into cities like Sumy, Kharkiv, or Zaporizhzhia. While they do not have the capacity for such operations, the pattern of relentless pressure persists," the military expert stated.
He believes that Russia will maintain these tactics, as there is no indication that it is currently concentrating its forces in specific areas.
"Even if some Russian troops are redeployed from the Kursk region to other areas, it will not alter the overall dynamics of the fighting, which has already been shaped by the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the enemy's limitations in armored vehicles. However, Russia still has manpower, and this remains a factor the Kremlin will continue to exploit, though without the ability to carry out deep offensive breakthroughs in specific areas," noted Serhiy Zgurets.
