Russia’s Banderol missile contains foreign-made components — Ukrainian intel
Foreign parts were found in Russia’s new S8000 Banderol cruise missile, including components from China, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and several other countries
The data was published by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense (HUR) on the War&Sanctions portal under the section Components in Weapons.
Intelligence reports say the missile was developed by Kronstadt, a company under sanctions. Its main launch platform is the Orion drone, also made by Kronstadt. The missile is also being modified to work with Mi-28N attack helicopters.
The HUR noted that the missile's feature is its ability to make turns with a smaller radius than typical Russian-made cruise missiles (Kh-101, 3M-14, 9M727, Kh-69), while maintaining the characteristic flight trajectory of a cruise missile.
The Banderol is equipped with a warhead weighing up to 150 kg. The missile can cover a distance of up to 500 km at a speed of 500 km/h. Aviation kerosene is used as fuel.
Additionally, the missile has been found to contain foreign components, including:
- The Swiwin SW800Pro jet engine from China – an engine for aviation modeling, available for purchase on online platforms (estimated price on AliExpress – $16,000);
- The RFD900x telemetry module, made in Australia or its Chinese copy;
- An inertial navigation system, likely of Chinese origin;
- Murata battery cells from Japan;
- Dynamixel MX-64AR servos by Robotis, South Korea;
- The CRP Kometa-M8 anti-jamming antenna – also used in Russian Geran drones, UMPK, and UMPB;
- Nearly two dozen microchips from American, Chinese, Swiss, Japanese, and South Korean manufacturers.
Most of the foreign electronic components for this missile come through the Chip and Dip network, one of the largest Russian electronics distributors.
In total, more than 20 key components of the S8000 missile have been identified, along with about 30 companies involved in its production or supply.
- In March, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that Russia uses Shahed drones and aerial bombs with foreign components supplied despite sanctions. Russian weapons contain over 82,000 such parts.
