Russian troops self-inflict wounds to claim payments, benefits — Ukrainian intel
Ukrainian intelligence has discovered that Russian soldiers are massively faking injuries to receive payments and benefits, as well as to avoid service on the front line
The press service of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence reported the information.
A large-scale fraud scheme was exposed in the Russian 83rd Airborne Assault Brigade, where officers and soldiers faked injuries to receive payments, benefits, and avoid service on the front line.
"The military was enrolled in the lists of wounded and underwent 'treatment' in hospitals, while continuing to receive monetary allowances and other benefits," the agency reports.
The command thus appropriated over 200 million rubles.
One of the organizers, Lieutenant Colonel Frolov, was allegedly wounded four times according to documents and received numerous awards, but in reality, his "wounds" were inflicted by his comrades, trying not to damage his vital organs.
In addition, dozens of dead Russian soldiers are considered missing in action, which allows the Russian Defense Ministry to avoid paying their families, while officers enrich themselves with fakes.
