Russian troops do not control Chasiv Yar with fire, says 26th Artillery Brigade spokesman
Oleh Kalashnikov, a spokesman for the 26th Artillery Brigade named after Lieutenant General Roman Dashkevych, emphasized the strategic significance of defending Chasiv Yar in the context of operational and tactical planning on the Eastern Front
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
“Today, Chasiv Yar is not under Russian control. Although the city is under heavy fire, it is not accurate to say that the enemy controls it through firepower. Our defenses extend along the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal, and these lines are being successfully held. The occupiers have been unable to cross them or establish any bridgeheads. It's important to note that the formerly destroyed settlements, such as Klishchiivka and Andriivka, are also holding strong. The invaders have been unable to flank Chasiv Yar as they initially intended, forcing them to attack head-on with significant losses. For some time now, the Russians have made no gains in this area," commented the spokesman.
According to him, the Chasiv Yar area was the most active front before the Pokrovsk and Toretsk directions. It was near Chasiv Yar that Russian troops attempted to breach Ukraine's defenses and flank the Pokrovsk direction, but they failed.
"Chasiv Yar is situated on a ridge that dominates the surrounding area. The city itself is positioned on a hill, allowing control over the lowlands. Therefore, when the enemy began their assaults, attacking them from above proved highly effective. Today, Chasiv Yar serves as a fortress protecting the agglomeration of cities—Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Druzhkivka, and Kostiantynivka. Additionally, our logistics routes are controlled from this elevated position. The northern flank of the Pokrovsk direction is also covered from here, preventing the enemy from advancing and striking through us. The importance of Chasiv Yar is multifaceted; it is a small town, but it holds significant operational and tactical value on this section of the frontline," summarized Oleh Kalashnikov.
