Serhiy Zgurets, a military expert and CEO of the Defense Express media and consulting company, noted that the situation is difficult, but with sufficient ammunition and clear interaction, Ukraine can hold Chasiv Yar

He shared the information on Espreso TV.

“Chasiv Yar has been held for a long time. We know that one of the basic lines of defense ran along the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal. It is a concrete ditch about 30 meters wide, which makes it difficult to cross the channel for heavy equipment. In some areas there was water, but usually it is a dry concrete barrier. This line of the canal ran from north to south. In some places, there were stretches of 700 meters long where the canal ran underground, making it easier for the enemy to cross. However, these advances and attempts to break through were covered by our artillery,” explained Zgurets.

According to the military expert, there are three areas where the Russian army is trying to put pressure on Ukrainian defenses in Chasiv Yar.

“The first direction is Bohdanivka and Kalynivka, which are located north of Chasiv Yar. The second is the central part and the enemy's access to Novyi district. The third direction is from Ivanivske through Stupochky with an advance to Kostiantynivka. The 24th Brigade reported that the enemy took advantage of the change in weather conditions during the fog, and some of their equipment and personnel moved along this route. However, later the 24th Brigade said that the adversary was blocked and was being destroyed,” noted Zgurets.

The military expert added that the situation remains difficult, but with coordination between the brigades, sufficient ammunition and clear interaction, Ukraine's military can continue to hold Chasiv Yar, which is a hill and an important defense point.

  • Since the beginning of the day on Tuesday, October 22, 166 combat clashes have taken place at the frontline. The situation at the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions remains tense as Russian troops are advancing most actively there.
  • Mykola Dovbnia, a member of Druzhkivka City Council, noted that the shelling continues around the clock in Kostiantynivka and Druzhkivka.
