Russian forces attempt to break through Ukrainian defense near Sudzha, Kursk region
Russian forces are trying to break through the Ukrainian defense line near Sudzha in the Kursk region. Fighting is currently ongoing there
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, reported the information.
According to him, intense battles are ongoing in the border areas of the Sumy region. Russian assault groups are attempting to break through and advance toward the road from Yunakivka to Sudzha in the Kursk region.
He added that Ukrainian Defense Forces are engaged in combat and inflicting significant losses on the Russians.
Earlier, Ukrainska Pravda, citing a source from one of the units in this area of Kursk region and the DeepState map, reported that Russian forces had broken through the Ukrainian defense line near Sudzha.
“There was a breakthrough of the (Ukrainian) blocking area. In short, this is the territory where our units try to hold back the enemy to avoid the threat of partial or complete encirclement,” the source said.
According to the source, this did not happen suddenly but “gradually and systematically.” Before the New Year, Russians had already entered Kurilovka, south of Sudzha, where one of the Ukrainian brigades had left its positions.
“After that, the enemy accumulated forces and systematically conducted assault operations. Yesterday and the day before (March 6 and 5), they made a push—this is the result,” the source added.
He noted that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are now trying to stabilize the situation to prevent the enemy from completely cutting off supply routes.
The publication stated that the Russians likely advanced near Sudzha to secure another route toward a key road for the Ukrainian grouping in the Kursk region—Sumy-Yunakivka-Sudzha.
Ukrainska Pravda also reported that since early January, the enemy army has been attempting to gain control over this road. At the end of February, Russian forces made their first attempt to approach it from the north via the village of Novenke.
- On February 25, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian General Staff, Dmytro Likhoviy, reported that the Russian army had crossed the border near the village of Novenke in the Sumy region but was pushed back into Russian territory.
- On the night of March 7, DeepState reported that on March 6, the Russian army advanced near Kurilovka in the Kursk region and Fyholivka in the Kharkiv region.
