Russia claims to be establishing 'security zone' in Ukraine’s Sumy region
Invading Russian army has allegedly "liberated" the Kursk region and is creating a so-called security zone in the border areas of the Sumy region
The Russian Defense Ministry reported the information on May 2, according to Interfax.
"Units of the Sever (North) military grouping have completed the defeat of Ukrainian Armed Forces formations on the territory of the Kursk region. During active offensive operations, the settlement of Gornal in the Kursk region was liberated," the ministry stated.
It is noted that the village of Gornal was the last settlement in the Kursk region that was under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"The creation of a security zone in the border areas of the Sumy region of Ukraine continues," the Russians claim.
It is worth noting that Ukraine has not officially confirmed the withdrawal of its Defense Forces from the Kursk region, and the General Staff's reports continue to mention the Kursk region.
- According to data from the General Staff published on the morning of May 2, there were 33 combat clashes in the Kursk direction over the past day. The enemy carried out 210 artillery strikes, five of which were from multiple launch rocket systems, and conducted 15 airstrikes, dropping 21 guided aerial bombs.
