Russia claims nearly 50 drones downed across five regions, explosions in Kursk and Taganrog
On the night of Sunday, December 8, Russian air defense systems were reportedly active across five regions, allegedly intercepting 46 Ukrainian drones
Explosions were reported in the cities of Kursk and Kurchatov in the Kursk region and Taganrog in the Rostov region, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry claimed the following interception numbers:
- Belgorod region: 17 drones
- Kursk region: 12 drones
- Voronezh region: 6 drones
- Rostov region: 7 drones
- Astrakhan region: 4 drones

The region declared a drone threat at midnight, later extending the alert to a potential missile threat. Local sources reported air defense activity and multiple explosions in Kursk and Kurchatov. In the Rostov region, the acting governor stated that debris from a downed UAV shattered windows in shops in the Novoshakhtinsk area. No casualties were reported. Meanwhile, residents of Taganrog reported hearing powerful explosions overnight, though local authorities have not provided official comments.
