Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu told Reuters.

According to her, Kyiv and Bucharest began the relevant negotiations even before incidents involving drones violating European airspace.

“We believe it is strategic for the eastern flank to be better protected, especially in air defence. So what we are doing in that direction is to create the partnerships needed, for example, with Ukraine to build defensive drones for the future,” Țoiu said.

She clarified that such UAVs will be used by Romania and its EU and NATO allies.

“We believe in our capacity to make it a reality fast,” the Romanian minister said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

  • Earlier, Romanian President Nicușor Dan stated that his country is unlikely to participate in imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine, as doing so would mean entering the conflict.
