He made the announcement during a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, as reported by European Pravda.
“Rheinmetall has just opened its first plant in Ukraine, and the second plant will be completed soon,” Rutte said.
He also stressed that developing the defense industry is crucial for Europe’s security and Ukraine's defense. Rutte noted that German industry plays a vital role for NATO and Kyiv.
According to Rutte, Rheinmetall has “significantly increased” its ammunition production since 2022.
Rheinmetall is one of the world's largest producers of artillery and tank shells. The company began to increase production after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
- German Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger said on Thursday, March 14, that the concern plans to build at least four weapons plants in Ukraine.
