Military expert Zgurets details three Russian movement directions in Pokrovsk sector
Serhiy Zgurets, miliary expert and CEO of the Defense Express media and consulting company, discussed the growing risks faced by Ukrainian forces in the Krasnohorivka-Karlivka-Nevelske triangle in the Donetsk region
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions remain the most challenging, as confirmed by combat engagement statistics. Russia's advance towards Pokrovsk has been halted for now. In this area, we need to consider three possible enemy advance routes. The first is towards Pokrovsk through Hrodivka and Novohrodivka, where the situation has stabilized, according to the Ukrainian army chief. However, the dynamics of the invader’s attempts continue," Zgurets commented.
According to him, many analysts have observed that the images show the ongoing construction of strong defense lines around Pokrovsk and between Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk.
"However, the enemy has shifted their focus. Their new push is towards the northwest, aiming for Selydove. Here too, their advance has been halted. The northern direction, where settlements like Ukrainsk and Hirnyk are located, remains challenging. The Russian army is making progress and has seen some success in this area. The most concerning news has been the occupation of Nevelske, which was a key eastern stronghold in the area between Karlivka, Nevelske, and Krasnohorivka. Nevelske had been defended for nearly two years, but the Russians eventually captured it due to their superior numbers and equipment,” the military expert explained.
According to Zgurets, there are now certain risks for Ukrainian forces stationed in the Krasnohorivka-Karlivka-Nevelske triangle.
“One notable concern is the threat posed by Russian movements near Ukrainsk and Halytsynivka. Russia is advancing along both sides of the Vovcha River, which could endanger the rear of Ukrainian troops in this area. I believe the Ukrainian side will need to consider withdrawing from the pocket that has formed due to the fighting. Even if the front line evens out, Russian forces won't gain any significant advantages. The key is that we must have the resources and strategy to effectively counter any further enemy attempts to advance towards Kurakhivka and then Kurakhove. This is crucial to prevent them from creating threats along the entire line from Kurakhove to Vuhledar,” Zgurets explained.
