Denmark reports unidentified drones near military bases
Unidentified drones that were spotted over Denmark during the evening and night of September 24–25, flew in the vicinity of military sites
TV2 reported the information.
As detailed, near Aalborg Airport there is an Air Force base — the main location for C-130 Hercules and Challenger CL-604 transport aircraft. Nearby is also the base of Denmark’s elite special operations unit, Jægerkorps.
In the area of Skrydstrup in Southern Jutland, where drones were also spotted, there is a base where Danish F-16 fighter jets undergo technical maintenance.
The group of drones in this region (Esbjerg, Skrydstrup, Sønderborg) was detected roughly at the same time as the first ones near Aalborg — shortly before 10 p.m.
It was also revealed that Billund Airport was closed for one hour. The police received a report at 4:20 a.m., but the presence of drones was not confirmed, and the airport quickly resumed operations.
The police of Central and Western Jutland reported that the presence of a drone was also confirmed in Holstebro, where the Jutland Dragoon Regiment is based — the only regiment in the Danish Army with an armored battalion. The drone was spotted there around 3:30 a.m.
In connection with the events, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen and Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard are expected to hold an urgent press conference.
Due to the rerouting of three civilian flights scheduled to arrive in Aalborg during the airspace closure, SAS and KLM had to cancel two morning flights.
By morning, all airports in Denmark were operating normally, and no problems are expected.
- On the evening of September 22, the Copenhagen airport suspended operations due to drone activity, and in Oslo, drones were spotted over a military facility.
