Capture of Chasiv Yar will open up prospects for Russia's significant operational progress - ISW

The Russian occupation army continues its attempts to occupy Chasiv Yar. The capture of the town will allow the Russian Federation to launch further offensive operations against the towns that form a significant defense belt in Donetsk region

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War.

It is noted that the Russian army has been strengthening its forces to capture Chasiv Yar since March 2024.

"The offensive effort to seize Chasiv Yar offers Russian forces the most immediate prospects for operationally significant advances as the seizure of the town would likely allow Russian forces to launch subsequent offensive operations against cities that form a significant Ukrainian defensive belt in Donetsk Oblast," the analysts say.

At the same time, they emphasize that the Russian forces "do pose a real threat" to capture Chasiv Yar, although they probably won't be able to do it quickly. In addition, the ISW suggests that Russian troops are probably trying to capture as much territory as possible before the arrival of US aid to Ukraine.
