87 combat clashes occur at front, over a third in Pokrovsk sector - Ukraine's General Staff

Since the start of August 20, there have been 87 combat engagements at the frontline, with the heaviest fighting concentrated in the Pokrovsk sector

Russian air strikes

Russian attacks have targeted the border areas of the Sumy region. Specifically, Bachivsk, Mykhailivske, Riasne, and Pokrovka were hit by artillery fire. Additionally, Slavhorod was struck twice by multiple rocket launchers.

Frontline situation 

In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces have stormed Ukrainian positions six times in the areas of Vovchansk and Lyptsi. Two combat engagements are currently ongoing in Vovchansk.

In the Kupyansk sector, Russia attacked Ukrainian positions six times. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled Russian assaults near Petropavlivka and in the directions of Lozova and Novoosynove. One firefight is still ongoing.

In the Lyman sector, Russian units, supported by aviation, continue to attack in the areas of Makiivka, Novosadove, Hrekivka, and Dibrova. Ukrainian troops have repelled nine Russian attacks in this sector since the start of the day. The situation is under control.

Fighting continues in the Siversk sector, with Russian forces attacking near Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, and Pereizne. The Russian army attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses four times, dropping seven aerial bombs on Serebrianka and Verkhniokamianske.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the occupying army conducted three assault operations near Ivanivske and Klishchiivka. Russian troops also attacked the areas of Hryhorivka and Chasiv Yar with unguided aerial missiles.

In the Toretsk sector, Russian forces have launched 14 attacks today. They are targeting the towns of New York, Nelipivka, Toretsk, and Zalizne. Ukrainian defenders are providing a strong resistance, having already completed 13 combat engagements with ongoing battles. Russia’s aviation struck Druzhba with unguided aerial missiles and hit Toretsk and Nelipivka with eleven guided aerial bombs.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the highest number of combat engagements was recorded. Since the start of the day, Russian forces have made 34 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Mykhailivka, Kalynivka, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Mykolaivka, Ptyche, Skuchne, and attacked towards Zelene Pole. Ukrainian forces have repelled 24 Russian attacks, with ten combat engagements still ongoing.

In the Kurakhove sector, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian units seven times, attempting to advance near Kostiantynivka, Krasnohorivka, and Karlivka.

In the Vremivka sector, Russia made one unsuccessful attack on Ukrainian positions.

In the Orikhiv sector, Novoiakovlivka and Novopavlivka were targeted with guided aerial bombs, while Novoandriivka and Lobkove were struck with unguided aerial missiles. At the same time, Russian units attempted to advance towards Novodanylivka but were unsuccessful.

In the Prydniprovskyi sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks.

  • Over the past day, the Russian army lost 1,330 soldiers in the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian defense forces eliminated 5 tanks and 52 artillery systems.
