Russia amasses troops in Donetsk region: military expert Selezniov reveals their numbers
Vladyslav Selezniov, a military expert and spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2014-2017, noted that it is important for Russian enemy to transform its numerical superiority into territorial gains
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"Fierce fighting continues in all sectors, except for the area near Vuhledar. Russian enemy is trying to attack our positions, involving an incredible number of personnel, artillery, and aviation components. The enemy is striking at the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using tanks," stressed Selezniov.
According to the military expert, Russian enemy, as part of its winter campaign, is trying to transform its numerical and tactical superiority into at least some achievements on the battlefield.
“The Russian enemy has concentrated over 156,000 personnel in the Bakhmut and Donetsk sectors. They are consolidated into the South group of troops. And it is these resources that the enemy is trying to use to achieve its goal. The enemy attacks and uses its military personnel as cannon fodder. That is, Russian generals do not care how many of their soldiers will remain in Ukrainian soil forever. It is important for them to transform their numerical superiority into territorial gains," added Selezniov.
- Over the past day, 105 combat engagements took place on the frontline between the occupying Russian army and Ukrainian defenders. The Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled a number of enemy attacks in 6 sectors and eliminated 1,140 Russian servicemen.
- The Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that Russian troops are advancing at the Kupyansk, Lyman and Bakhmut directions to capture new settlements in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.
