Over 120 000 Russian invaders, advance of Ukraine's army: situation in Kupyansk-Lyman sector
Military expert Dmytro Sniehyrov has commented on the situation in the Kupyansk-Lyman sector, naming the hottest spots where fighting is taking place and describing the Ukrainian army's progress
He said this on Espreso TV.
Activation of Russian forces in the Kupyansk-Liman direction
The expert noted that the Russian group has over 120,000 fighters. He drew attention to the fact that at the same time, the Russians have about 50,000 people in the Bakhmut direction.
"We can clearly realize that it is the Kupyansk-Lyman direction that is a priority for the Russian invaders and the moment of a breakthrough in the Ukrainian defense. Currently, heavy fighting is taking place in the area of Makiivka. There are tactical successes of the enemy troops and advancement by several hundred meters, let's call a spade a spade," he noted.
Sniehyrov emphasized that in the area of Synkivka, which was traditionally considered one of the hottest spots on the map of military operations, there are tactical successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"It is worth mentioning that the Russian forces tried to attack along two forest belts in the vicinity of Synkivka, but the successful nature of the Ukrainian Armed Forces counterattacks did not allow the occupiers to approach the settlement directly. It is worth noting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are demonstrating effective counter-battery combat in this section of the front, and, accordingly, the so-called active nature of defense. That is, they are moving from defense to counterattacks, which makes it possible to keep the situation under control," the expert added.
Situation in the Svatove sector
"Speaking about the situation in the Svatove section of the Kupyansk sector, there is heavy fighting in the area of Novoyehorivka. The invading Russian troops are trying to push through the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense and gain direct control over the dominant height 190," he noted.
He added that the Russian army has brought 2 tank battalions into the battle, which indicates the importance of this direction for the Russians.
"Nevertheless, there are tactical successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of Novoyehorivka. Moreover, Ukrainian defenders managed to de-occupy about 2 km² of the previously occupied territories," he said.
The expert added that Russia deployed the newly created 25th Army, totaling up to 17,000 soldiers, to the area of Kreminna.
"Invaders are attacking in the area of Bilohorivka, trying to regain lost positions. Ukrainian weapons are successfully working in this area to hit the Russian rear bases. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are successfully attacking the enemy in Kreminna, Lysychansk and, accordingly, in Rubizhne," he said.
In addition, Sniehyrov noted that the Ukrainian army launched a series of strikes on the places where personnel and equipment were concentrated in the Kotivka area.
"This also demonstrates the capabilities of the local resistance movement and the successful nature of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' actions with the help of highly technical characteristics of Western weapons, primarily cannon and rocket artillery. The situation is difficult, but it is under control," he emphasized.
The expert added that the Russian troops are highly active, with up to 600 artillery strikes on Ukrainian positions in the Kupyansk sector over the past day. This indicates that the invaders do not have a shell famine.
