Reuters reported the information.
"To understand what the Ukrainians are going through, I ask all Italians to switch off all energy sources for one hour a day," Reuters cites Meloni's speech in Rome to a gathering of Italian ambassadors.
The outlet notes that in this way the Italian Prime Minister pays tribute to Ukrainians "who are defending their freedom and love for their country", despite the fact that since October Russia has increased missile attacks and drone strikes on the territory of Ukraine, thereby damaging country’s critical infrastructure and leaving many areas without electricity.
- On December 21, as part of the UNITED24 initiative, more than 60 world-famous locations turned off the lights for an hour to raise funds for generators for Ukrainian hospitals.
- Also, on December 21, out of solidarity, Vilnius, Kaunas, Vilkaviška and other municipalities of Lithuania took part in the Hour with Ukraine campaign, during which they turned off the festive lights.
- Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for the festive lights to be turned off at 8 p.m. local time as a sign of support for Ukraine.
