Martin Griffiths begins his four-day trip to Ukraine
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths has started a four-day visit to Ukraine
This was reported by the UN Mission in Ukraine.
Martin Griffiths' visit will last from December 12 to 15. He will visit Mykolaiv, Kherson and Kyiv to learn about the war's humanitarian impact on the Ukrainian people and the work of humanitarian organizations in the country.
Griffiths will meet with government officials, humanitarian partners and people affected by the war.
As the UN representative office adds, in Mykolaiv, the UN Under-Secretary-General will visit the residences of internally displaced persons and a bakery supported by the UN, which bakes bread for people in Kherson near the front. Next, he will go to Kherson, where he will inspect, in particular, heating points. Mr. Griffiths will finish his trip in Kyiv, where he will hold meetings with representatives of the authorities, as well as non-governmental organizations and the diplomatic community.
Since the beginning of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, almost 18 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Recent attacks on energy infrastructure have left millions without heating, clean water or electricity. During this time, the UN and humanitarian organizations have already provided critically needed assistance to more than 13.5 million people.
