Siren special operation has been launched in Lviv

On August 30, a special operation called Siren was initiated in Lviv to search for the killer of former Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to Espreso, transport is being checked at the city’s exits.

The leadership of the regional prosecutor’s office and the National Police, along with forensic experts, are working at the scene. The investigation into the identity of the attacker and the circumstances of the crime is ongoing.

The preliminary investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. The head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has been appointed as the senior prosecutor overseeing the group of prosecutors.

What is known about the killer

The attacker who killed Andriy Parubiy was dressed as a delivery courier for Glovo. The delivery service informed Suspilne media that they are ready to assist in determining the circumstances of the crime and in the search for the perpetrator.

Zelenskyy’s reaction

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the killing.

“Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have just reported the first known details of the horrific murder in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy has been killed. My condolences to his family and friends. All necessary resources are engaged in the investigation and search for the killer,” he wrote on his official Telegram channel.

Crime was carefully planned

In a video address just a few hours later, Zelenskyy stated that the crime had been carefully planned and that law enforcement – the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General – were regularly briefing him on the investigation into Parubiy’s murder.

He also mentioned that he had spoken with Vasyl Maliuk, the head of the SBU, and that the Security Service of Ukraine is involved in the investigation.

First details of the killing

According to journalist Vitaliy Hlahola, Parubiy was shot eight times.

“My sources in Lviv police say the former Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy was shot eight times,” he wrote.

Suspilne media, citing its sources in the police, reported that seven shell casings were found at the scene where Parubiy was killed.

According to law enforcement, the shots were fired by a person dressed like a delivery courier. The suspected attacker was on an electric bicycle. He approached Parubiy, fired, and then rode off.

The killing had earlier been reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

Initially, police said that around noon on August 30, they had received a call to 102 about a shooting in Lviv’s Sykhiv district. Later, law enforcement clarified the incident occurred in Frankivskyi district. The victim died at the scene from his injuries. The deceased was a well-known public and political figure, born in 1971.

Police stressed they are taking measures to identify the gunman and his whereabouts. Details of the case will be disclosed in accordance with criminal procedural law.

Investigation and operational groups of the National Police’s Main Investigative Department and Lviv regional police, as well as the Security Service of Ukraine and other agencies, have been engaged in solving the case.
