Lukashenko's regime fails to persuade army to invade Ukraine by land
The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, was ready to order an invasion of Ukraine in December 2022
Valery Sakhashchik, a representative of the Joint Transitional Cabinet for Defense and National Security of the Democratic Republic of Belarus and the founder of the Belarusian Air Assault Group, said this on Espreso.
“As of the end of December, all combat-ready units of the Belarusian army were on the border. The soldiers started moving from the bottom, started asking a lot of questions to the command, why they had to go to Ukraine, why the Ukrainian people had suddenly become our enemy. The Ministry of Defense tried to intimidate the military, but it didn't work. The KGB spent almost a full week in the army, blackmailing, frightening, talking to the military - it didn’t work. They reported to the top leadership that the Belarusian army was not ready to fight in Ukraine, so the order was not given,” he said.
