Lukashenko orders creation of new military General Staff focused on Ukraine

Lukashenko said:

“Unfortunately a new path has opened, a new front, and we can’t ignore it. We talked about this during our first meeting. The Ministry of Defence proposed to deploy a new Operational Command in the Southern direction. We understood that we needed to do something, but the time so dynamically and quickly nudged us to immediately create this Operational direction. Together with Western and the North-Western there’s going to be a Southern wing of defence.”

The self-declared president of Belarus added that despite the Defence wing yet not being created, the Belarus soldiers have to “quickly train the defence of those positions, almost on the go”.

“You can see it: there’s a rotation of the military forces going on (Westen and the North-Western directions), as well as Tactical Battalion groups, which by my command are sent to the Southern regions and today are defending with the border defences. We have to make this rotation, this is my requirement, and train our Forces there. This is a requirement of the War. But without the war itself for now. I feel and receive information that our troops are training truthfully. We need to plan and work out in these conditions, to work out what we have to do if, God forbid, a war starts.”

The need for change in the Belarus Army, the self-declared president linked to the “rising level of threat to Belarus”. Also he declared that the country is threatened to be attacked from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and the forces of NATO which are deployed there, as well as the escalating military actions in Ukraine.

“By America’s plan Europe and NATO engaged in a global confrontation with Russia. In this confrontation Belarus will have to face an unprecedented and lingering economic, political and even military pressure. A few years ago I’ve already said that our problem is that God located us right in the middle of the European continent. And whatever happens here, there are always oppositions of the big players on Belarus territories.”
