Lithuania will supply NASAMS launchers to Ukraine – President Nauseda
Next month, Lithuania will supply Ukraine with NASAMS air defense system launchers, each carrying 6 AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles. They should strengthen Ukraine's air defense
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda made the announcement on Twitter.
"Today in Kyiv I told my dear friend President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Lithuania will keep supporting Ukraine until victory. Lithuania will deliver NASAMS launchers to Ukraine next month," Nauseda said.
The President of Lithuania arrived in Kyiv on August 23 to take part in Independence Day events. The Ukrainian and Lithuanian leaders discussed the current situation on the battlefield and the urgent needs of the military.
In addition, the leaders of the countries considered cooperation on issues of food security and the development of alternative routes to the grain corridor for the export of agricultural products.
"We appreciate Lithuania's accession to the Group of Seven's joint declaration of support for Ukraine and readiness for fruitful cooperation for the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula and the holding of a global peace summit," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
What is NASAMS?
NASAMS is Norwegian anti-aircraft missile complex, the main advantages of which are mobility and high accuracy (shoots down 85% of targets). A missile fired from it can maneuver to increase its efficiency. Also, the missile has a homing radar head and a high level of resistance to electronic warfare systems.
The NASAMS launcher has 6 missiles. A battery (9 or 12 units) can fire all 54 or 72 missiles in 12 seconds.
