Lithuanian Ministry of Defense announced training course for 1600 Ukrainian defenders, they will be trained during 2023

The website of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported that on February 1, the Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with the Ambassador of Ukraine Petro Bešta. During the meeting, the minister assured that Lithuania is ready to continue supporting Ukraine until victory.

"The Ministry of National Defence has allocated EUR 4 million for training of Ukrainian troops in Lithuania. Currently, 121 Ukrainians are being trained in Lithuania, with courses on 60 mm mortars and military police operations," the press service said.

The meeting also discussed Ukraine's needs in training junior officers.

"Representatives of the MoD and the Military Academy of Lithuania are weighing the possibility of delivering a six-week training for 50 people. If the course is approved, the total of 100 company commanders will be trained in Lithuania in 2023," the ministry added.

  • On January 12, Lithuania promised to provide Ukraine with weapons to combat enemy drones. Vilnius plans to increase its capacity to manufacture this type of weapon.

  • Later it was reported that the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service sent to Ukraine equipment for blocking drones, as well as power generators, warm clothing sets and contactless thermometers.
