The US documents from March 23 refer to the number of NATO special forces that were present in Ukraine in February and March. Leaked Pentagon data indicates the presence of special forces of Great Britain (50), Latvia (17), France (15), the United States (14), and the Netherlands (1).
It is noted that the documents do not contain information on where the representatives of the Alliance are located and what activities they are engaged in, as well as whether the presence of the contingent has remained at the same level.
The British Ministry of Defense did not comment on the information regarding the placement of its special forces in Ukraine, but almost immediately published an official statement in which they claim that there are "serious inaccuracies" in the documents.
For his part, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov denied the presence of NATO special forces in Ukraine. Commenting on the leaked Pentagon documents, he told Reuters that “there is a lot of information that is not true.”
“The information that is true has lost its relevance. So, this is a mixture of truth and lies,” the minister said.
According to him, Russia benefits from sowing discord among Kyiv's allies.
The Pentagon is investigating the leak of secret US and NATO documents regarding Ukraine's counteroffensive. Classified documents have appeared on social networks detailing US and NATO plans to build up the Ukrainian army before a planned counteroffensive.
CNN reported that the Ukrainian command changed some of its military plans after the leak.
Currently, the Pentagon is still assessing the scale of the leak. Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the president's office, noted that the documents did not contain data on the counteroffensive.
Some of these documents did not pass verification for originality, and the White House called them a forgery. Associated Press journalists found that the person who published the secret documents in Discord may actually be a kid.
