Kremlin no longer wages war, but war wages Kremlin

Western media are full of speculation on potential failure of the plans to "negotiate with Russia from a position of strength"

However, such scenarios were initially based on a false assumption. From the peacetime belief that peace is better than war, and that some gains are better than constant losses.

But this is simply not the case for Moscow.

Such considerations do not take into account the nature of the war between Russia and Ukraine. It is not a war for territory or even symbols. It is a war for existence. Either Ukraine's or imperial Russia's existence.

And the Russian state, as well as what it has done to its society, is determined to get Ukraine at any cost. It is no longer the Kremlin that is waging the war, but the war that is waging the Kremlin.

“There are rational explanations for this. The scenario of "suspension of war", "peace in exchange for territories", etc. would mean: a) resumption of the war as soon as Russia takes a rest (see the first and second Chechen wars); b) Russia's unwillingness to adhere to any agreements, because the goal has not been achieved and sanctions force it to lose resources, while Ukraine will stop losing them.”

Therefore, Russia may not accept "peace through an armistice".

Therefore, we will face a long and bloody war until victory. No matter how much someone wishes otherwise.

This means the need to radically restructure the way the state functions now:

  • attracting everything useful and everyone useful to support the army, expanding aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia;
  • justice - transparency of resource use while simplifying management procedures;

  • unconditional priority of defense spending;

  • responsibility of the central government for strengthening defense, and of communities for local life.
