Kremlin most fears Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in Melitopol direction - military expert Polyakov
Leonid Polyakov, military expert, 1st Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine (2005–2008), Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine (in 2014), believes that due to political considerations, the Russian leadership will attempt to hold on to Kherson.
He said this on Espreso TV.
"The Russian leadership will hold on to Kherson, instead of urgently withdrawing its group to the left bank of the Dnipro River, and this will allow us to continue the offensive in the direction of Luhansk. Their mobilized soldiers will only become additional casualties because they are untrained and poorly armed. The Russian forces lost a lot of weapons in the area of Kupiansk and Izyum," Polyakov noted.
The military expert also added that Ukraine's Armed Forces will continue their offensive through Kreminna and Lysychansk and threaten the encirclement of the enemy group near Bakhmut.
"The Russian soldiers will be forced to weaken their offensive there as well. In the coming weeks, it will be exactly the same if they do not withdraw their troops from the right bank of the Dnipro River to the left. If the Russian forces withdraw, then in the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine's Armed Forces will not press them, because they are most afraid of our offensive in the Melitopol direction and that we will reach the borders of the Luhansk region as of February 24," Polyakov explained.
