Kremlin denies Trump's claim that Putin agreed to European peacekeepers in Ukraine

"There is a position on this matter that has been expressed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. I have nothing to add," Peskov said, responding to Trump’s remarks.

As the outlet noted, on February 18, Lavrov stated that the presence of troops from NATO countries in Ukraine, even “under a different flag,” would be unacceptable for Russia.

On Monday, February 24, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, Interfax, and RBC-Ukraine reported that French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France and the United Kingdom had prepared a security guarantee project.

"We must play our role within the framework of security guarantees," Macron said at a briefing with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to him, the security guarantee project for Ukraine includes the deployment of peacekeepers: “The troops will not necessarily be positioned along the front line but will be present as a guarantee.”

Trump expressed his opinion that Russian leader Vladimir Putin would “not be against” the deployment of European peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of a peace settlement.

"Yeah, he will accept it. I have asked him that question. Look, if we do this deal, he’s not looking for more war," Trump was quoted as saying by AP.

The U.S. president assured: "Europe is going to make sure nothing happens."
