Kherson counteroffensive gaining momentum - UK intelligence
Russian troops on the west bank of the river Dnieper are more vulnerable as a result of a successful operation by the Ukrainian army, according to British intelligence.
This is reported by the military intelligence of the British Defense Ministry.
"Ukraine's counteroffensive in Kherson is gathering momentum. Their forces have highly likely established a bridgehead south of the Ingulets River, which forms the northern boundary of Russian-occupied Kherson," the report says.
Ukraine is said to have used its new long-range artillery to damage at least three bridges across the Dnipro River, which Russia relies on to supply areas under its control.
One of them, the 1,000-meter long Antoniv bridge near Kherson, was damaged last week. On July 27, Ukraine struck it again, and it is very likely that the crossing is now unusable, according to British intelligence.
"Russia's 49th Army is stationed on the west bank of the Dnipro River and now looks highly vulnerable," the British Defense Ministry claims.
As noted, Kherson, the most politically significant settlement occupied by Russia, is now practically cut off from other occupied territories.
"Its loss would severely undermine Russia's attempts to paint the occupation as a success," the report said.
