Kh-101 missiles with decoy flare do not significantly affect air defense - military expert
Defense Express analyst Serhiy Zgurets said that the modernization of Kh-101 missiles by the Russians is mainly about countering MANPADS, or air defense missiles with an infrared homing head
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"The modernization of the Kh-101 missile, on which Russians installed decoy flare, has been used in recent strikes on Ukrainian territory. In particular, in Kyiv. Our experts have already disassembled and seen the wreckage of such missiles. Yesterday I spoke with the director of the Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Justice Ministry, whose experts are involved in analyzing each strike. He said that we are really talking about additional modules that have thermal and specially firing devices," explained Zgurets.
The analyst noted that the modernization of Kh-101 missiles with decoy flare can only affect the operation of man-portable air defense systems
"This modernization of the Kh-101 missiles by the Russians is mainly aimed at countering MANPADS, or air defense missiles with an infrared homing head. The modernization of the Kh-101 missiles does not affect the operation of Gepard, which destroys air targets with cannons, or air defense systems with other guidance systems. Yesterday's figure of 85% of downed Kh-101 missiles confirms that this modernization does not significantly affect the work of Ukraine's air defense forces," he added.
