"It's like two territories of Austria": Ukrainian State Emergency Service head on scale of Ukraine's mined area
Serhii Kruk, head of Ukraine's State Emergency Service, says that 30% of Ukraine's territory is currently mined as explosives technicians are clearing liberated areas
This was reported today, on November 18, on the air of the national United News telethon.
“The area of the mined territory of Ukraine has increased 10 times compared to the pre-war period," the head of the service added.
In addition, Serhii Kruk also noted that in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, de-occupied territories are actively being cleared of explosive objects. More than 8,000 square kilometers are subject to demining. Of them, about 7,000 square kilometers are the territory of the Kherson region and up to 1,500 square kilometers - the Mykolaiv one.
“In the de-occupied territories of the specified regions, in cooperation with the military-civilian administrations, a significant number of pyrotechnic units of Ukraine's State Emergency Service are working. All the assigned tasks are being carried out, the main of which is the launch of life support systems and the provision of assistance to citizens. Fire-rescue units are functioning, and humanitarian hubs are being created, aid arriving in the Kherson region is distributed,” the head of Ukraine's State Emergency Service said.
It is also reported that a significant number of emergency services specialists from the western regions have been sent to the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. Engineering and emergency rescue units are working to inspect roads, interact with power engineers, disassemble, as well as inspect objects that are put into operation.
“I hope that in the coming days, electricity will be restored in the de-occupied territories and life support systems will work. It will take several months for the structures working there to restore a normal life in the territory of the Kherson region,” Serhii Kruk said.
