Italy to provide Ukraine with EUR 2 million for demining work
Italy is taking part in rebuilding Ukraine. This aid package will include EUR 2 million for humanitarian demining in the de-occupied territories.
This was stated by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, during a meeting with the Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrskyi.
"Many large and small Italian cities have signed memorandum of cooperation with Ukrainian cities. This is a brotherhood between cities that was born either before the war or during it. And we want to use this channel to work towards the restoration of Ukraine. Starting from today, Italy, both at the highest state level and at the local levels, will be able to join Ukraine's reconstruction projects", the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry said.
According to him, within the framework of this project, Italy has decided to provide Ukraine with EUR 2 million, which will be sent for humanitarian demining.
He also clarified that Italy will be able to hand over part of the demining equipment to Ukrainian rescuers in the near future.
During the meeting, Denys Monastyrskyi thanked Luigi Di Maio for his personal position on Ukraine, which was marked by the withdrawal from the Five Star Movement party due to the principled intention of further consolidation of the Italian Government's efforts to support Ukraine and adhere to a unified EU policy.
