UN Adviser on Maritime Security Peter Adams says demining Ukraine's main ports could take months, even if it starts immediately
Bloomberg reported the statement.
Adams noted that even if the ports want to open tomorrow, it will still take some time before the ships can safely navigate those waters.
"Completely removing sea mines in the port areas would take several months," he said.
About 80 ships carrying about 450 sailors remain blocked in Ukrainian ports. A third of them are from the Philippines, but there are also people from Azerbaijan, Turkey and Syria.
Earlier, Russia blocked Ukrainian ports, making it impossible to export grain. The Kremlin demands that the world community lift sanctions on Russia to avoid a food crisis.
