ISW notes Ukrainian Armed Forces' success near Bakhmut and advancement in other areas
Ukrainian troops continued counteroffensives in at least three areas of the frontline and advanced, they also achieved tactically important successes in the area of Bakhmut
Such conclusions were reached by analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in their daily report.
Experts note that geolocation footage published on July 25 shows that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have made tactically important gains south of Klishchiyivka (7 km southwest of Bakhmut).
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the fighters were conducting offensive operations in:
- Bakhmut
- Melitopol (western Zaporizhzhia region)
- Berdiansk (border area of Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions) directions.
Ukrainian sources reported that the Defense Forces had advanced 750 meters in the direction of Staromayorske (9 km south of Velyka Novosilka), while Russian sources claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had advanced slightly west of Orikhiv.
According to Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar, Russian troops suffer 8 times more casualties than Ukrainian troops in the Bakhmut area, and 5.3 times more in the Berdiansk and Melitopol sectors.
The ISW draws attention to its assessment that Ukrainian counteroffensive operations "are aimed at creating an asymmetric gradient of attrition that preserves Ukrainian military strength" by slowing the pace of territorial advances and land liberation while gradually depleting the Russian Army's manpower and equipment.
