ISW: defeat of Russian troops near Vuhledar reveals serious problems of its army

Investigation of the catastrophic losses of the Russian occupiers during their attempted offensive near Vuhledar revealed a number of problems of the Russian army

ISW reports.

Russian troops reportedly continued to make serious mistakes during unsuccessful tank attacks for several weeks in a row and led tank convoys into Ukrainian ambushes.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian troops lost at least 130 tanks and armored personnel carriers during the three-week offensive, forcing them to resort to frontal attacks with infantry.

The Ukrainian military successfully lured Russian tanks into the areas of destruction before immobilizing the Russian convoys and directing them to mined roadsides, and then finishing off the vehicles with cannon artillery and HIMARS systems.

The Russian units deployed in the Vuhledar area, primarily the 155th Marine Brigade, mostly staffed by poorly trained mobilized personnel who previously suffered huge losses in the area in October 2022, symbolize the inability of the Russian armed forces.

ISW experts also note that the growing failures of the Russian military in various areas will impede the Russian military's ability to conduct effective offensive operations.
