Israel's attack marks start of full-scale war that could draw in other nations — military expert
Israel’s attack on Iranian targets has marked the beginning of a full-scale war between the two countries, which will involve other states
Ihor Semyvolos, director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Everyone is waiting for Iran’s response. When it comes to the timing and scale of this response, it will depend on the decisions made in Iran. I believe Iran has a strategic vision and planned scenarios for how events may unfold. Israel expects that Iran’s strike will be spontaneous and emotional — an immediate attack on Israel.
Currently, Iran can maintain a certain level of threat to Israel with strikes by Shahed drones. It is clear these drones are being shot down, but Israel uses missiles and aircraft — that is, resources. However, Iran may carry out attacks on Israeli territory over a prolonged period. It is also obvious that there will be missile strikes on Israel,” Semyvolos explained.
The expert emphasized that Israel and Iran do not share a common border. Therefore, during attacks, missiles and drones will pass through the airspace of other countries.
“This is not a temporary or one-time conflict. Today a full-scale war between Israel and Iran has begun. Other countries may be drawn into this war because Israel and Iran do not share a border. Hence, missiles and drones during attacks fly through the airspace of other countries. Jordan may shoot down aircraft, or Saudi Arabia may forbid Israel from striking targets over its territory. Much will depend on this, including which side those countries support,” he added.
