Iran plans to supply Russia with limited range missiles
Iran wants to limit the range of missiles that Russia may use for a full-scale war in Ukraine, wary of the international community’s reaction.
Four sources in Israel familiar with Israeli intelligence stated this, Axios reports.
According to Axios' sources, international pressure has not been able to fully prevent Tehran from sending missiles to Moscow, and it plans to resume arms deliveries in the near future. At the same time, we are only talking about missiles with a range of less than 300 kilometers, and those with a longer flight range will be modified.
In particular, we are talking about the Fateh-110 missile system, which has a range of 300 kilometers, but according to Israeli intelligence, Iran plans to modify it so that it does not violate relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. For the same reason, there is no question of supplying the Zolfagar missile, which has a range of 700 kilometers.
The thing is that UN Security Council Resolution No. 2231, which was adopted in 2015 as part of the Iran nuclear deal, prohibits other countries from transferring or receiving from Iran ballistic missiles and drones with a flight range of more than 300 kilometers and a payload capacity of more than 500 kilograms until October 2023.
The delivery of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia will be a violation of the resolution and will activate the mechanism for reimposing UN sanctions on Iran.Such a situation would create problems not only for Iran but also for Russia, which is a permanent member of the Organization's Security Council.
It recently became known that Russia provides Iran with an unprecedented level of military and technical support in exchange for Tehran's supply of weapons for the war in Ukraine.
