Invading Russian forces in Kherson region declare Ukrainian language Russian - political scientist
Invading Russian forces try to convince Kherson region residents that the region's history began with the start of Russian Imperial rule, and that the Ukrainian language is actually a "Russian surzhyk" (Ukrainian-Russian mixed language)
Volodymyr Molchanov, a political scientist from Kherson, said this on Espreso TV.
"Two Russian banks have opened in the Kherson region - one is formally South Ossetian, and the other is the sanctioned Promsvyazbank, the main culprit in financing the Russian defense industry. Bank branches were opened, but they do not know how to work with customers, so such a small number of people who try to open accounts create queues there. Queues are because there is no normal Internet. They create such problems for themselves", he said.
According to him, the Russians always promise something.
"There is a danger - the Russian leadership is raising the rates. They are trying to bribe those who stayed with various handouts. They announced that there will be very cheap utility services. They are actually supplied by Ukraine, so they steal them and sell them too cheaply to residents of Kherson. The university announced that it will be possible for everyone to enter without exams, scholarships will be paid, as well as dormitories will be free. Traitor teachers are promised a salary of RUB 70,000 each, the same goes for officials", Molchanov said.
He added that the Russian occupiers have some enthusiasm.
"It got to the point where they go around the villages, gather full halls of people there, and Stremousov, who never spoke Ukrainian in principle, begins to communicate in it, saying: "We are not against the Ukrainian language. It will also be there, but we understand that our region is Russian-speaking. In the villages, people speak in surzhyk, but it is also Russian". That is, they declared the Ukrainian language in the Kherson region to be simply a "Russian surzhyk". They convince people that they are Russians, and that the history of the region began with the Russian occupation at the end of the 18th century", the political scientist said.
