Increased activity of Russian hackers is recorded in Poland
The pro-Russian NoName057(16) group is behind the cyber attack on the Polish Sejm, which was carried out after a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism was adopted
The Commissioner of the Government for the Security of Poland's Information Space reported this.
According to the Polish government, the team of the CSIRT GOV information security incident response team (working in the Internal Security Agency of Poland ABW) discovered problems with the accessibility of the sejm.gov.pl website. Analysis of the data proved that the site was attacked by the pro-Russian group NoName057(16). This group chose the website of the Polish parliament as one of its targets. The attack was a response to the adoption of a resolution recognizing Russia as a state that supports terrorism.
The government states that after the beginning of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of attacks by Russian hackers in Polish cyberspace has increased.
“This is the Russian Federation's response to Poland's support for Ukraine and an attempt to destabilize the situation in our country,” government officials believe. “And this is a consequence of our commitment to help Ukraine, as well as the fact that Poland is resolutely advocating on the international stage for assistance to Kyiv. With the help of hostile operations in cyberspace, Russia wants to put pressure on Poland, as a frontline country and a key ally of Ukraine on NATO's eastern flank.”
Both state institutions and private companies, as well as the media and ordinary users, become the objects of hacker attacks. Some of these cyberattacks can be directly linked to the activities of pro-Russian hacker groups, the Polish government notes.
Hacking groups linked to the Kremlin use ransomware, dDos, and phishing attacks, and the goal of hostile actions coincides with the goals of a hybrid attack: destabilization, intimidation, and sowing chaos. Increasingly, cyberattacks are used to spread Russian disinformation and service Russian special services to collect data and sensitive information.
