In Russian-occupied Oleshky, flooding destroyed many houses, death toll is impossible to determine - Oleshky mayor
In the Oleshky community, the water level is gradually falling, but many houses have been destroyed by flooding. The exact number of casualties is still unknown
Oleshky mayor, Yevhen Ryshchuk, shared the information with Ukrinform.
"The water level is falling in the Oleshky community. Unfortunately, a lot of houses were flooded, we cannot say the exact number, people were left without homes... There is chaos in that area and it is impossible to say how many people died," he said.
He emphasized that it is too early to make claims about hundreds of fatalities, as suggested on social media. The Russian occupation administration issues death certificates for drowned people only when they have been identified.
"In the morgue, which has no power supply as of now, there are two unidentified bodies - no one knows who these people are. There is also information that Russians are allegedly taking away some bodies - but it remains unclear whose bodies they are and where they are being taken," Ryshchuk said.
The situation is the same with information about missing persons - people report that their relatives have gone missing, but then may not be informed that they have been found, the mayor noted.
Also, some citizens were evacuated by Russian forces and there is currently no contact with them.

Meanwhile, Russian troops deprived the residents of Oleshky of the opportunity to evacuate. People were sitting on roofs, many did not have enough water and food. Later, some people, primarily those with Russian passports, were allowed to evacuate.
